Reflect/Reset October & November
Reflect/Reset is a series on the blog and will be published on the first Friday of the month. In this series of blog posts, I will be sharing details about the previous month of training and sharing my training plans for the month ahead. I will reflect on the past month and reset to create space for the experiences that await in the new month.
Reflect: October
October, did I love you! Why did I love October so much? It’s simply really: I loved October because I participated in three different races! In the Everglades 5K on 10.21.22 I got to experience a greater running community that included people who follow Vacation Races across the county. In the Freaky 4-Miler on 10.22.22 I got to catch up with my local Miami running friends. Finally, in the MIA Runway 5K on 10.29.22 I got to share the runway with 2500 other runners and walkers. These three races reminded me that our running community is large and incredibly diverse. I think that part of the fun for me was that I wasn’t racing any of these events; I felt like a child taking it all in with awe in my eyes and inspiration in my heart. People love to move, regardless of whether it’s a 5:00pm, 6:30am, or 7:30am start time. October was a month full of consistency in my running and tons of on-the-run fun. With all these races I felt like the runner I was 10 years ago when I signed up and ran all the races possible. October was a great reminder that, for me, the more events I participate in, the more joy I get out of this wonderful sport of running. I know there were some tough, hard, and challenging runs in the mix, but the racing has made my backwards looking vision very rosy colored.
October Stats:
109.9 miles total
27.5 miles average weekly
19 runs total
Longest run: 14.10 miles
Shortest run: 3.14 miles
Favorite workout: Speed workout with 200s and 400s. Favorite because I messed up the recovery period between the 400s and still crushed it!
Most memorable moment: MIA Runway 5K
What supported running this month: The usual yoga, strength training, and physical therapy, but also racing supported my growing love for running and the running community.
Reset: November
In November I’ll be committing to a daily Gratitude Mile. For this, I’ll either run or walk a mile in honor and celebration of all that I have to be grateful for in my life. I did this back in November 2020 when we were deep in the pandemic and I needed a reminder that gratitude, no matter the size, can be found daily. If I’ve got a run scheduled, then the mile will be included in that run, and I hope this will help elevate all my running miles in November. Aside from that, after a happy month in October, I am eager to sign up for more races in November. A turkey trot will probably be a part of the mix, but I am curious to explore what other local races are happening this month. I’ll also be focusing in on my distance goals for 2023 and prepping myself for the next strong training cycle.
