Reflect/Reset: September & October
Reflect/Reset is a new series on the blog and will be published on the first Friday of the month (Sunday this month…oops!). In this series of blog posts, I will be sharing details about the previous month of training and sharing my training plans for the month ahead. I will reflect on the past month and reset to create space for the experiences that await in the new month.
Reflect: September
September, you had my heart when it comes to running. Not because running got any easier, but because running got more meaningful with my participation in Vacation Races’ Great Smoky Mountains 5K race during the Great Smoky Mountains Running Experience. I’ve said this before, but I will say it again: training for a 5K during the summer months was the best thing I could do for myself as a runner. When September came around, I was ready to run and race. I wrote a review of the race here, but I want to emphasize my renewed respect for the 5K distance. The best part of racing a 5K though? I was able to get back into training quickly, which was much needed considering September was also the month we moved and running was the constant thing that kept me connected to myself and rooted in the present.
September Stats:
85.38 miles total
21.3 miles average weekly
16 runs total
Longest run: 10.30 miles
Shortest run: 1.87 miles (shakeout run!)
Favorite workout: Aerobic + strides.
Most memorable moment: Vacation Races’ Great Smoky Mountains 5K
What supported running this month: Yoga, strength training, physical therapy, and fun books to read during taper week.
Reset: October
Oh, October. I have no clue what to expect from you. I am signed up for Zooma Amelia Island’s Seaside Challenge, but logistics and finances aren’t working in my favor so soon after the retreat and our move. My plan is to run the challenge virtually and sign up for two local in-person events: Vacation Races’ Everglades 5K on 10.21.22 and Freaky 4-Miler on 10.22.22. The focus will probably get clearer towards the end of the month as training for the Miami Half Marathon on 01.29.22 kicks off. So, basically, the goal for October is to remain as open as possible to every single opportunity to run that I am given. I’ll be curious to see what next month’s Reflect/Reset posts will feature.
